Office of Technology Management pursues bold, market-based innovation

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Office of the Vice President for Research has established a new Office of Technology Management (OTM) to foster a comprehensive environment and a fresh, aggressive approach for intellectual property creation and management at Penn State.

Part of the Research and Technology Transfer Organization, OTM is a merger of two formerly separate offices known as the Industrial Research Office and the Intellectual Property Office. OTM staff will encourage innovative technology development and translation to the marketplace and are responsible for successfully marketing and licensing Penn State intellectual property to corporations and start-up companies. In addition, OTM staff will work closely with faculty interested in conducting more market-relevant research to help them develop related new technology with commercial promise.

OTM staff will work closely with corporate partners and entrepreneurs as technology scouts, to determine where faculty can apply their research expertise to areas in critical need of innovation. OTM staff also will work to establish partnerships between Penn State faculty and the corporate sector, to support the development process while marketing Penn State technology to the world.
