"Treating All Animals: My Education and Career as an Animal and Human Doctor," a presentation by Pamela vonMatthiessen, will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, in Foster Auditorium, 102 Paterno Library. The talk is sponsored by the Penn State Equine Research Team and the Life Sciences Library, Penn State University Libraries.

vonMatthiessen will share stories from her interesting career that began with a master's degree in molecular genetics and a stint in Western Samoa with the Peace Corps. She then attended veterinary school and became a top-notch equine surgeon and chief-of-staff at Tufts Large Animal Hospital. For her 50th birthday, she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and then decided to pursue a career as a human doctor. She just retired from daily practice as the only internist in Gunnison, Colo.

Her story will give students with different career interests insights into each practice and will offer good advice and discussion opportunities.
