HealthWorks releases new healthy cooking videos

HealthWorks, a student outreach program within University Health Services (UHS), recently added two videos to their online healthy cooking series. The two new videos feature a spinach salad with strawberries and walnuts, and pasta with vegetables and garlic bread.

“The recipes show students how to incorporate more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into their diets,” said student Jackie Costantino. Courtney Bottorf, who also worked on the videos, said, “each video includes information on food safety, cooking techniques, and the nutritional and health benefits of ingredients.”

Former Penn State students Brita Burgland and Felicia Reynolds also helped to develop the cooking videos.

Community Health Educator Kimberly Liao oversees the HealthWorks program. “The videos were created by students for students, especially those who live off campus,” said Liao. “Best of all, students don’t have to be master chefs to make these recipes -- Healthy Eating with HealthWorks shows students step-by-step how to create quick, simple and nutritious meals that they can afford and enjoy."

The cooking videos and other healthy resources for students can be accessed through the Healthy Penn State website at http://healthypennstate.psu.edu/nutrition.shtml.

The goal of HealthWorks is to promote health among Penn State students. Applications for the program are accepted each spring. For more information, visit http://studentaffairs.psu.edu/health/wellness/healthWorks.shtml.
