Special Faculty Senate meeting convened

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State's University Faculty Senate will convene a special meeting at 11 a.m. on Friday (Nov. 18) in the auditorium of the Lewis Katz Building at University Park.

Senate Chair Daniel Hagen said the sole agenda item for the special meeting is to adopt a statement to express the Senate's sympathy for the victims of child abuse; endorse the independent inquiry commissioned by the Board of Trustees; and express the Senate's commitment to working with President Rodney Erickson to restore public trust in the University.

"It is important that the Senate comes together to make its voice heard on this issue," Hagen said. "The Senate and all faculty have a vital role to play in reaching out to victims of abuse and rebuilding the Penn State community."

The meeting is being held in accordance with Senate bylaws, which enable the chair to convene a Senate meeting in response to a written petition of at least 50 faculty members to consider proposals.

Bylaws require the petition to contain a statement of purpose and the names of five faculty members designated to meet with Senate Council. The five faculty members will review this issue with Senate Council on Thursday (Nov. 17).
