Local artist featured in the Palmer Museum's Dec. 3 holiday art sale

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Local artist Kimberly Brooks Filkins will be the featured artist at the Palmer Museum of Art's annual Holiday Art and Ornament Sale. Her commissioned ornament was inspired by an oil painting titled "Still Life with Grapes" by Severin Roesen, which is currently on view in the Hull Gallery on the second floor of the museum. The sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the museum on Penn State's University Park campus.

Working with fused glass, Kimberly has created unique variations of grapes being offered in the following colors: bright green, olive green, purple and dark burgundy. These grapes can adorn a tree, hang in a window, compliment a bottle of wine, or be worn as a pendant. They will be offered for sale at $30 each. Funds raised from this event are used to extend the museum's education programs, to acquire works of art, and to help ensure that the museum will remain a vital and free-admission resource for the Penn State community and the Centre Region.

Other artists participating include Pernille Sporon Boving, Blakely Eyster, Judith Finkelstein, Elli Groninger, Sue Harter, Kat Oliva, Deb Parsons and Christine Smith. Art will be displayed for sale in the museum’s Christoffers Lobby and ornaments for sale will be displayed on trees throughout the galleries on the first floor. There will be a variety of art and ornaments for sale ranging in mediums from glass to wood and prices from $5 and more. All of the creations being offered by these exceptional artists are sure to make unique holiday gifts for friends and family.

Another great holiday gift idea is to give a gift of Friendship. A friends’ membership is a wonderful way to give a fabulous year of art, exhibitions, and programs to someone special! The individual level begins at $35 and provides exclusive members-only benefits.

The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State is located on Curtin Road and admission is free. For more information, please contact Jennifer Feehan, coordinator of membership and public relations, at 814-863-9182 or jenfeehan@psu.edu.
