Mechanical and nuclear engineering's Sahd named student marshal

Phillip A. Sahd will be the student marshal for the College of Engineering at Penn State's fall commencement ceremony on Dec. 17. Sahd will receive bachelor of science degrees in mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering.

He has chosen Laura L. Pauley, professor of mechanical engineering, to be his faculty escort.

College of Engineering student marshals are selected for their outstanding academic achievement and contributions to engineering student life.

Sahd is the son of Beth Ann and Benedict Sahd of Lititz, Pa. He is a 2007 graduate of Warwick High School, also in Lititz.

He is a member of the American Nuclear Society and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

His Penn State awards and honors include the John J. Brennan Excellence in Nuclear Engineering Award, the Evan Pugh Senior Scholar Award, the Evan Pugh Junior Scholar Award, the President Sparks Award and the President's Freshman Award.

His Penn State activities included serving as a teaching intern for classes in heat transfer and nuclear analytical techniques.
