York women's basketball team creates cards for troops in Afghanistan

Members of the Penn State York women's basketball team worked recently to create holiday cards for soldiers just deployed to Afghanistan. Terri Van Slyke, assistant basketball coach and admissions counselor at York campus, suggested the project to the team.

"Cards and letters mean a lot, especially during the holidays," said team member Amanda Ball, who said she remembers how much her brother appreciated receiving letters from her when he was serving in Iraq. "It is a way for us to let the soldiers know we appreciate all they are doing for us. The holidays are really meant for people to be with family and surrounded by loved ones; hopefully these cards help the soldiers to feel more at home while they are away."
