University Health Services recognized in Health Care Honor Roll

Each year University Health Services (UHS) encourages Penn State students to receive the seasonal flu vaccine. This year UHS staff are leading by example. Over 90 percent of UHS staff and student volunteers have been vaccinated against seasonal flu. After allowing for staff with contraindications, over half of UHS' 12 departments achieved a 100 percent participation rate.

"Flu vaccination by UHS staff helps to protect our patients, co-workers and families," stated Shelley Haffner, UHS infection control nurse manager. Haffner also reminds staff and students, "It's not too late to get vaccinated. Flu season hasn't hit yet this year."

UHS will be recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Health's Health Care Honor Roll for reaching a higher than 90 percent vaccination participation. "This is a great example of our staff's commitment to their health and the health of those we care for each day," added UHS Director Margaret Spear.
