Paterno funeral arrangements announced

Public viewings Tuesday and Wednesday at Pasquerilla Spiritual Center; "A Memorial for Joe" set for Thursday in Bryce Jordan Center

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The family of Joe Paterno has completed the funeral arrangements for the legendary Penn State educator, coach and humanitarian, who passed away Sunday, Jan. 22. Two public viewings will be held, as well as a public memorial, “A Memorial For Joe,” on the University Park campus.

A public viewing will take place from 1 to 11 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, and from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, located near the intersection of Curtin Road and Allen Street on campus. There will be a private funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral procession will begin at about 3 p.m. The procession will leave the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, turn left onto Curtin Road near the Pattee-Paterno Library and travel Curtin Road past Beaver Stadium. The procession then will turn right onto Porter Road and turn right onto College Avenue, heading west through downtown State College. The burial is private.

A public memorial service, “A Memorial For Joe,” will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, in the Bryce Jordan Center, located at the intersection of Curtin Road and University Drive on campus. A ticket will be required for admission, and all tickets are free. Doors will open at 1 p.m. Visit http://live.psu.edu/story/57360 for important parking information for the public memorial service.

Demand for tickets to “A Memorial For Joe” is expected to be extremely high. A limit of two tickets per person will be available starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Those who wish to attend are encouraged to order tickets at www.GoPSUsports.com/tickets online. Those who order tickets online must use the “Print at Home” option. The “Print at Home” ticket will be required for admission to the Bryce Jordan Center. Ticket confirmation of online orders will be emailed by 5 p.m. Tuesday. This confirmation also will provide the “Print at Home” instructions.

Tickets also can be secured by phone, beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, by calling 1-800-NITTANY. Successful phone orders can be picked up at the Jordan Ticket Center will call from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, and again beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26.

Tickets will not be available at box office locations.

Those who are unable to attend Thursday's memorial service will be able to watch live coverage on the Big Ten Network, at BTN.com and BTN2Go.

Backpacks and bags larger than 8.5 inches by 11 inches by 11 inches will not be permitted in the Jordan Center for the memorial service. No photography or video will be permitted at the memorial service, nor will any signs.
