Students in EDSGN 100 Introduction to Engineering Design will be displaying their solutions in the inaugural Design for Emerging Markets Showcase from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 29, in Kunkle Lounge.
The event is free and open to the public.
More than 45 teams will show off their final design solutions to developing world problems. Projects focus on transportation, food preservation, water filtration, construction and commerce.
Also featured at the showcase will be a series of projects partnering with the Humanitarian Engineering and Social Entrepreneurship program to develop "universal connectors." Connector projects include using a bike to generate power, putting wheels on anything, designing a low-cost filter press, finding creative solutions to fish preservation and developing innovative ways to turn a bike into a small shop that sells produce.
Visitors will have the opportunity to vote for a people’s choice award among the projects presented.
