Davis appointed to Commonwealth's eHealth Committee

Lisa A. Davis, director of the Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health (PORH), has been appointed by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett to serve on the Commonwealth’s newly formed eHealth Collaborative Advisory Committee.

Corbett issued an executive order in July 2011 creating the Pennsylvania eHealth Collaborative, which seeks to advance the use of health information exchanges (HIEs) in the Commonwealth. HIEs allow hospitals, clinics, physicians and other health care providers to share patient information securely with multiple sources, including other hospital systems, labs and pharmacies. By protecting patient information and providing fast, comprehensive access to data, HIEs can improve patient safety, reduce redundant tests and procedures, and improve public health monitoring.

“This committee will support the Pennsylvania eHealth Collaborative’s efforts to advance health information exchange with the goal of improving patient health and safety,” Corbett said. Members of the committee include the state health information technology coordinator and appointees that represent the interests of a broad spectrum of the healthcare stakeholder community.

Davis has been recognized nationally for her work on rural health issues, public health policy, women’s health and the un- and underinsured. She has received several awards, including the Outstanding Leadership Award from the Pennsylvania Rural Health Association (PRHA) and the Distinguished Leadership Award from the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH). PORH has also received NOSORH’s Award of Merit during her tenure.

Davis currently serves on the NOSORH and PRHA boards and co-chairs each organization’s legislative/policy committees. She also serves nationally on the National Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Advisory Committee; the Rural Health Works National Managing Committee; the Appalachian Regional Commission Health Policy Advisory Council; and several National Rural Health Association advisory committees. Within the Commonwealth, Davis serves on a number of committees and advisory groups for the Pennsylvania Department of Health and other state agencies and organizations. She is also vice president and co-founder of the Centre County Breast Cancer Coalition; treasurer of Pennsylvania Rural Partners; and serves on the board of the Pennsylvania Center for Adolescent Health.
