Details regarding the upcoming “Meet the Candidates” event on Saturday, April 21 in the Intramural Building’s Gymnasium 1 on the University Park campus have been finalized and announced by the Penn State Alumni Association.
The 86 candidates running for the Penn State Board of Trustees will have two hours, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., to meet alumni and discuss their ideas, positions on issues facing the University, and other pertinent information to help alumni make an informed vote in the upcoming Penn State Board of Trustees election. This free event is open to the public.
“The Alumni Association is facilitating the informal meet-and-greet session to allow alumni voters to meet all the BOT candidates in one location at a time when the most alumni will be on campus -- Blue-White Weekend,” said Roger L. Williams, executive director of the Alumni Association. “We thought this event would be a helpful opportunity for our alumni to get to know the people behind their voting options in a more personal way and ask candidates the questions that are most important to them.”
Each candidate will be given a table to display information and from which to distribute literature and giveaway items. If any candidate is unable to attend, he or she may send one representative to staff the table. Due to limited electrical outlets, there will be no accommodations available for audio-visual presentations or use of amplifying equipment, and no food will be allowed. There is no formal program for the event.
The Intramural Building, or IM Building as it is better known, is across from Shields Building on Curtin Road adjacent to University Drive. The easiest access to Gymnasium 1 is to enter the IM Building at street level from Curtin Road, using the doors on the west side of the building.
As another opportunity to educate alumni voters, the Alumni Association through its Penn Stater magazine, is creating a “Three Questions for the Candidates” website. The Penn Stater editors posed the same three questions to each alumni candidate on key issues facing Penn State. The questions and each candidate’s answers will be posted online at www.pennstatermag.com/bot2012 on or before April 9.
Voting in the Board of Trustees election for the three open alumni seats runs from April 10 through 9 a.m., May 3. The complete list of alumni candidates, in ballot order, as well as their bio and position statement is on the Board of Trustees’ website at www.psu.edu/trustees.
