Annual PSEAS awards to honor engineering faculty, staff on April 13

Engineering faculty and staff will be honored at the 2012 Penn State Engineering Alumni Society (PSEAS) Awards at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 13, in the Kunkle Lounge in Hammond Building.

The PSEAS Awards recognize the outstanding efforts in teaching, research, advising, staff, service and work with students.

Five members of the faculty will receive the Outstanding Teaching Award: Michael Gooseff, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering; Myron Hartman, instructor of engineering at Penn State New Kensington; Siegfried Herzog, assistant professor of engineering at Penn State Mont Alto; Michael Janik, assistant professor of chemical engineering; and Martin W. Threthewey, Arthur L. Glenn Professor of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. Andris Freivalds, professor of industrial engineering, will receive the Premier Teaching Award.

Five members of the faculty will be honored with the Outstanding Research Award: Suman Datta, professor of electrical engineering; Costas D. Maranas, Donald B. Broughton Professor of Chemical Engineering; Arthur T.  Motta, professor and chair of nuclear engineering; Jelena Srebric, professor of architectural engineering, and Adri van Duin, associate professor of mechanical engineering.

The Premier Research Award will be awarded to Vijay Narayanan, professor of computer science and engineering.

Four members of the faculty will receive the Outstanding Advising Award: Leland Engel, instructor and director of mechanical engineering design projects; Patrick Reed, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering; Margaret June Slattery, assistant professor of bioengineering; and Terry Speicher, assistant professor of engineering at Penn State Berks.

The outstanding staff award will go to Debby Mayes, an administrative support assistant in aerospace engineering; Nancy M. Sabol, an administrative support coordinator in architectural engineering; and Stefanie K. Tomlinson, alumni and public relations staff assistant in the Dean's Office.

H. Joseph Sommer III, professor of mechanical engineering, will be honored with the Distinguished Service Award.

The Lawrence J. Perez Memorial Student Advocate Award will be given to Elizabeth Kisenwether, assistant professor in the School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs.
