Acoustics chair Victor Sparrow wins FAA outstanding faculty award

Victor W. Sparrow, professor of acoustics and interim chair of the Graduate Program in Acoustics, received the 2012 Outstanding Faculty of the Year Award from the Federal Aviation Administration's Center of Excellence for Aircraft Noise and Aviation Emissions Mitigation.

The award, presented to Sparrow at the center's advisory board meeting in late March, recognizes his outstanding achievement in aviation research and education.

Sparrow specializes in teaching computational acoustics and nonlinear acoustics. He also assists in the development of a comprehensive set of computer based courses in noise control engineering.

Outside of the classroom, Sparrow focuses his research on physical acoustics, structural acoustics, computational acoustics and scientific visualization.
