Gardening workshop planned at Penn State Hershey

The University Fitness Center at Penn State Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine will hold a two-day Gardening Workshop to help educate the community in health and wellness. The center has partnered with vendors from the Farmers Market in Hershey, community Master Gardeners, and Penn State Cooperative Extension. Gardening 101 will be held on Saturday, April 28, for adults only. It is designed to help answer gardening questions, and provide education on nutrition and wellness.

Sunday, April 29 is family day and will feature a “Kids Dig it Too” workshop. Accompanied by an adult, children are invited to learn how to grow their own garden (vegetables, fruits, and herbs) as well as the importance of honoring the local ecosystem. The gardening experts will engage the kids with a plant activity that they can take with them. They will also be educated in nutrition and fitness.

On both days of the workshop there will be in Indoor Farmers Market. The market hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Registration for the workshop is required and information is available at www.pennstatehershey.org/ufc. The indoor Farmers Market is open to all.
