Dawn Blasko honored with Vision and Passion Award

Dawn Blasko, associate professor of psychology at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, was honored with Math Options’ 2012 Vision and Passion Award for her many contributions to the program.

Blasko teaches research methods, cognitive psychology, the psychology of language and cross-cultural psychology. She supervises students in a laboratory that studies how age and gender influence the way the brain processes information. She also works with faculty in the School of Engineering to assess and train the spatial skills of incoming students.

This year, Blasko is taking students to the International Congress of Psychology in Cape Town, South Africa. The group will take a cultural tour and safari following the event.

Math Options began at Penn State Behrend in 1997. The program exposes middle-school girls to professional role models and to careers in the science, technology, engineering and math fields. Women typically are underrepresented in those areas.

More than 260 students attended this year’s program, which was held Tuesday.
