Record $3.29 million raised for Children's Hospital in 2011-12

Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital received $3,298,578 in private philanthropic support from the Children’s Miracle Network in 2011-12. The total, a culmination of the year-long fundraising campaign, was announced during the 28th annual Children’s Miracle Network Telethon, which aired this past weekend on WGAL-TV8. WGAL-TV8 anchors and reporters hosted the 15-hour telethon from the WITF Public Media Center in Harrisburg.

During the telethon, Children’s Miracle Network reached its goal to raise $225,000 in gifts called in by phone to benefit Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. This money will be used to purchase equipment for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), including specialized isolettes and monitors that help detect seizures and blood infections in preemies. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital is the only level IIIC (highest level possible) NICU between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

“We are very grateful for the community’s continued support of Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital through Children’s Miracle Network,” said Craig Hillemeier, chair of pediatrics and medical director at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. “Thanks to many individuals and corporate partners, we are able to provide world-class care to our patients and their families. On behalf of our patients, their families and our medical staff, thank you.”

Top corporate donors for the year included GIANT Food Stores, Rite Aid, Walmart and Sam’s Club, Cumulus Media, Inc., employees of Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine, and employees of The Hershey Company and Hershey Entertainment & Resorts.
