UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — William P. "Bill" Bahnfleth, professor of architectural engineering, was installed as president-elect of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) during the group's annual conference on June 23-27.
Bahnfleth, an ASHRAE fellow, is a member of the board of directors and the executive committee and chairs the Members Council, the President-Elect Advisory Committee and the Advocacy Committee.
He has served as ASHRAE treasurer and two terms as vice president of the board of directors. Bahnfleth has received the organization’s Exceptional Service Award, Distinguished Service Award, ASHRAE Technical Paper Award and a first-place Technology Award.
He serves as an adviser to ASHRAE’s Penn State student branch, is an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer and is a member of CLIMA 2013's advisory committee and building safety and security position document committee.
Bahnfleth received his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, as well as a bachelor of music, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Founded in 1894, ASHRAE has more than 50,000 members worldwide. The society and its members focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, refrigeration and sustainability within the industry.
