PETERSBURG, Pa. -- Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center will hold two special events in the coming weeks aimed at pleasing visitors of all ages. Festival-goers can enjoy local bands, locally grown food and beautiful scenery on Sunday, Sept. 30 at the Music Festival, followed by a celebration of autumn at the Fall Harvest Festival on Oct. 20 and 21.
Music Festival
The third annual Shaver’s Creek Music Festival will run from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 30 -- during Penn State's Parents and Families Weekend, Sept. 28-30 on the University Park campus -- at the Center in nearby Petersburg, Pa. Three local bands – Dreams and Bones, Pure Cane Sugar and Grain – will perform at the timber-frame stage. Local food vendors Eden View Organics and Standing Stone Coffee Co. will sell refreshments.
Tickets for the festival, which will be held rain or shine, cost $5 for students, seniors and Shaver’s Creek members, and $10 for nonmembers. Children six and younger are free. Tickets are on sale at Shaver’s Creek, Wiscoy Pet Food Co. and Appalachian Outdoors in State College, Standing Stone Coffee Company in Huntingdon, and Whipple Dam Store in Petersburg.
This year’s festival is sponsored by Shaver’s Creek members, the Arts Endowment for Shaver’s Creek, HappyValley.com, ClearWater Conservancy and Appalachian Outdoors.
Fall Harvest Festival
On Saturday, Oct. 20 and Sunday, Oct. 21, visitors can celebrate the bounty of autumn at the Fall Harvest Festival. The festival program includes pumpkin carving, face painting, music, storytelling, nature activities and the Children’s Halloween Trail – a fun, non-scary educational experience featuring costumed characters explaining the natural history of Halloween.

Admission to the festival, which runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., is free. Tickets for the Halloween Trail are $5 for children and adults and free for ages three and under. Tickets for the trail often sell out and can be purchased in advance, beginning in mid-September, by calling 814-863-2000.
Ongoing activities at Shaver’s Creek include Birds of Prey programs each Saturday and Sunday through November, Migration Morning Bird Walks each Wednesday morning in September, and weekly Kids Corner activities on Wednesday mornings in November and December.
