Harrisburg students receive honors from educational foundation

Maritza Delgado, an elementary education major at Penn State Harrisburg, and Autumn Proctor, a 2012 Penn State Harrisburg elementary education graduate, have received scholarships and awards from the Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) Educational Foundation.

Delgado, of Mount Joy, Pa., this year received the Donna Gail Shaw Scholarship for Chapter Services for her service to KDP, the campus, and the community. Delgado is former president of the Sigma chapter, and previously received the University’s Eric A. and Josephine S. Walker Award, which recognizes undergraduate students who have displayed character, scholarship, leadership, and citizenship.

Proctor, of East Berlin, is the first Penn State Harrisburg student to receive the National Student Teacher/Intern of the Year Award by the KDP and Association of Teacher Educators. She also received a KDP 2012 Harold D. Drummond Scholarship Award. Proctor previously received Penn State’s Rose Cologne Keystone Citizen Award; the KDP’s Excellence in Elementary Education Award, Distinguished Chapter Officer Award, and Donna Gail Shaw Scholarship for Chapter Services; and the Penn State Harrisburg Alumni Society Outstanding Senior Award. She also served as president of the KDP Sigma chapter.

With more than 40,000 members and 600 college chapters, Kappa Delta Pi “foster[s] excellence in education and promote[s] fellowship among those dedicated to teaching.”
