UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State EcoCAR 2 team and Center for Sustainability will be featured at a Plug In Day, a nationwide series of events highlighting the clear-air benefits and cost savings of electric vehicles (EV).
Plug In Day will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 23 at Best Buy at 1650 N. Atherton St., State College, Pa. The event is free and open to the public.
The State College event is one of more than 60 across the country where people can participate in ride-and-drives, electric car parades and "tailpipe-free" tailgate parties. Other Plug In Day events include awards to city leaders for promoting EV readiness and announcements of new public charging stations.
The local Plug In Day will feature rides in converted hybrids and advanced vehicles such as the Chevrolet Volt. Center for Sustainability representatives will give an on-site demonstration of a 120-volt portable charging station and have other EV related products on display.
Attendees will have the chance to win one of ten third-generation Apple iPads being given away at National Plug In Day events across the country. To enter the contest, people must go to www.pluginday.org to register and then attend one of the events.
In addition to the EcoCAR 2 team and the Center for Sustainability, the State College Plug In event is sponsored by State College Best Buy, Plug In America, the Sierra Club and the Electric Auto Association.
