Former Lady Lion Wright opens WNBA playoffs with Seattle Storm

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Former Penn State Lady Lion standout Tanisha Wright and the Seattle Storm begin their quest for their second WNBA Championship in the last three years with a first-round series against the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx Friday night in the Twin Cities. Game 1 of the best-of-three series will be televised on ESPN2 at 9 p.m. Game two will be Sunday, Sept. 30 in Seattle at 9 p.m. on ESPN and game three, if necessary, will be back in Minneapolis on Tuesday, Oct. 2 on ESPN2 (time is TBA). The winner of this series will go on to face the winner of the Los Angeles-San Antonio series.

Wright averages 7.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Her steals average ranks 16th in the Western Conference and 30th in the WNBA, while she ranks ninth in the league in assists per game. Additionally, Wright is among the league leaders in free throw percentage with a 85.9 percent mark from the charity stripe, which is fifth in the Western Conference and 10th overall in the WNBA. She is a two-time WNBA All-Defensive Team selection in her career.

The Lady Lions open their 2012 season with an exhibition game against former Penn State standout Jess Strom and the California (Pa.) Vulcans on Sat., Nov. 3. Penn State's regular-season opener is slated on Sun., Nov. 11 against Howard at the Bryce Jordan Center, where the Lady Lions will raise their 2012 Big Ten Championship banner.
