ID to air Penn State Public Broadcasting documentary tonight

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- In support of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Investigation Discovery (ID) will air the Penn State Public Broadcasting documentary “Telling Amy’s Story” at 7 p.m. Eastern time tonight (Oct. 8).

Introduced by actress and domestic violence prevention activist Mariska Hargitay, of "Law & Order: SVU," “Telling Amy’s Story” narrates the events leading to State College resident Amy Homan McGee’s tragic death in 2001, when she was shot and killed by her husband.

Funded by the Verizon Foundation, the documentary addresses the issue of domestic violence, and the accompanying website provides community education tools, such as group discussion guides, domestic violence facts and hotline resources, at http://telling.psu.edu.

“If we all know the signs and what to do when we suspect domestic violence, we’ll be able to save our sisters, mothers, daughters and friends from this terrible fate," said Henry Schleiff, president and general manager of Investigation Discovery, which is part of Discovery Communications.

Penn State Public Broadcasting, licensed to Penn State, produces non-commercial television, radio and online media programming along with complementary outreach materials, addressing important societal issues for Pennsylvania, the nation and the world.
