Homecoming to affect traffic in State College on Oct. 5 and 6

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State’s annual Homecoming parade will affect traffic along the parade route in State College and on the University Park campus from about 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 5. The weekend’s homecoming activities also will mean heavier traffic for the football game, slated for a noon kickoff on Oct. 6; those who are traveling to town on Saturday morning should leave plenty of time for arrival.

Parade units will form at 6 p.m. Oct. 5 in the parking lots at the intersection of Porter and Curtin roads near Beaver Stadium, and on fields behind the Intramural Building at the intersection of University Drive and Curtin Road. From there, the parade will travel:

-- West on Curtin Road to Bigler Road;
-- South on Bigler Road to Pollock Road;
-- West on Pollock Road to Shortlidge Road;
-- South on Shortlidge Road to College Avenue;
-- West on College Avenue to Burrowes Road; and
-- North on Burrowes Road and ending at Pollock Road.

Parking will be restricted along College Avenue beginning at 5:30 until parade traffic clears; motorists must remove vehicles parked along College Avenue prior to the start of the parade. Detours will be in place for drivers who need to cross through town during the parade.
