Palmer Museuem lecture to focus on modernism

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Leo Mazow will give the fall 2012 American Art Lecture at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 4, in the Palmer Museum of Art on the University Park campus of Penn State.

In his lecture, titled "Defining American Modernisms," Mazow, associate professor of art history at the University of Arkansas and former curator of American art at the Palmer Museum, will argue that modernism emphasizes experience, expression and the integration of opposites as both subject matter and guiding theoretical precepts. He will highlight selections from the museum’s permanent collection and the private collection of James and Barbara Palmer. Admission to the museum, along Curtin Road, is free.

The event is co-sponsored by the museum and the Department of Art History. For more information, call 814-865-7672 or visit palmermuseum.psu.edu.
