University Faculty Senate to meet Oct. 16

The University Faculty Senate will meet at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 16, in 112 Kern Graduate Building on Penn State's University Park campus. The items below will be considered at the meeting.

-- Interim Executive Vice President and Provost Robert N. Pangborn will give a presentation on the University's 2012-13 operating budget; the progress made in implementing Priorities for Excellence: The Penn State Strategic Plan, 2009-10 through 2013-14; and the outcomes of the Core Council process and implementation of a new Budget Planning Task Force.

-- A forensic session will be devoted to the content of the General Education report and consideration of the scope and direction for moving forward with the project of reviewing and reforming general education at Penn State. The Senate will vote on two motions made at the Aug. 28 Senate meeting concerning the NCAA sanctions and a statement from a group of past Senate chairs regarding implications of the Freeh report and NCAA consent decree. The motions are included on the Oct. 16 Senate agenda, available one week before the meeting at http://www.senate.psu.edu/agenda/2012-2013/oct2012/oct2012agn.html.

-- Associate Vice President for Human Resources Susan McGarry Basso will give an update on the Dependent Eligibility Verification initiative.

Members of the University community are invited to attend the meeting. Any member of the University community not a member of the Senate may request the privilege of the floor on any item of business already before the Senate. Such a request must be made to the chair through the executive director at least four calendar days before the meeting at which the individual wishes to speak.
