Single Reed Summit coming to University Park

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State School of Music will present the 2012 Single Reed Summit, a two-day event of clarinet and saxophone performances, master classes, lectures, vendors, a participatory Clarinet Choir and Saxophone Ensemble, and The Lyle Merriman Performance Competitions on Nov. 9 and 10. The event is hosted by Anthony Costa, professor of clarinet, and David Stambler, professor of saxophone.

Guest artists will include The Capitol Quartet, Wildy Zumwalt (State University of New York Fredonia), Deborah Bish (Florida State University), the Penn State Symphonic Wind Ensemble (Dennis Glocke conducting), The Pennsylvania Quintet, Carrie Koffman (Hartt School of Music), Janice Minor (James Madison University), Joe Murphy (Mansfield University) and numerous other regional performers. The general public is welcome at all events.

Application deadline for both the high school and undergraduate competitions is Oct. 24. This event is sponsored by the David Pyle Stone Music Recital Endowment, the Margot Music Fund, Music and Arts, the Buffet Group, Yamaha, the Rosemary Duncan Fund and the Penn State School of Music. Vendors will include Hammer Music Co., Rico, Hickey's Music and the Buffet Co. Summit participants will have the opportunity to try instruments, mouthpieces and other accessories.
