Nine faculty members receive 2012-13 Fulbright grants

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Chronicle of Higher Education reported on Oct. 28 that Penn State continues to lead the nation in outgoing Fulbright grants with six awards to faculty at the University Park campus. Also, faculty at Penn State Altoona and Hershey Medical Center received awards, and another faculty member at University Park received a short-term Specialist award. These awards enable faculty and staff members to engage in research, teaching and seminars in countries around the world.

Michael Adewumi, vice provost for Global Programs, said, “I am very pleased to see Penn State continue to rank number one in Fulbright Faculty Scholars for the 2012-13 academic year. Penn State is committed to building a global university, and the Fulbright awards are a reflection of that commitment.”

The following faculty has been awarded Fulbright grants for the 2012-13 academic year:

-- Mark Agee, professor of economics in the division of business and engineering at Penn State Altoona, lecturing/research grant to the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, Greece.

-- Tarasankar DebRoy, professor of material science and engineering, College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, distinguished lecturing/research grant at the Federal University of Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil.

-- Russell Frank, associate professor of journalism, College of Communications, lecturing grant at Ivan Franko L’viv University in L’viv, Ukraine.

-- Scott McDonald, associate professor and director of curriculum and instruction, College of Education, lecturing/research grant at Dublin City University in Dublin.

-- JeriLynn Peck, research associate, plant community and disturbance ecology in College of Agricultural Sciences, lecturing grant at Dresden University of Technology in Dresden, Germany.

-- Steven Rubin, assistant professor of arts, College of Arts and Architecture, research grant to Mizoram University in Aizawl, India.

-- Hoi Suen, professor of educational psychology, College of Education, specialist grant to Ajou University in Suwon, South Korea.

-- Tjiauw-Ling Tan, professor of psychiatry, College of Medicine, lecturing grant to the University of Indonesia in Jakarta.

-- Eric Zenner, associate professor of silviculture in College of Agricultural Sciences, lecturing/research grant to the University of Ljubljana in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
