South Central PA Robotics Competition set for Nov. 17

Penn State Harrisburg and Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) are sponsoring the South Central PA Robotics Competition from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the HACC Midtown 2 building.

The competition is being held in conjunction with the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Association for Computing Machinery and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Faculty members from the colleges are organizing the competition with educators from Dauphin County Technical School and Cumberland Perry Area Vocational Technical School.

Approximately 70 students from area high schools are expected to participate in the event, which challenges student teams to program a robot to perform four tasks as quickly and precisely as possible. Prizes will be awarded to the top competitors.

According to organizers, the event strengthens relationships between the region’s students and educators in science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines at high school and college levels.
