Faculty Senate releases agenda for Dec. 4 meeting

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The University Faculty Senate will meet at 1:30 Dec. 4, in 112 Kern Graduate Building. The items below will be considered at the meeting: 

-- A forensic session will be held to discuss the increasing trend in the ratio of fixed-term faculty to standing faculty.

-- The Senate will vote on a motion made at the Oct. 16 Senate meeting. The motion is included on the Dec. 4 Senate agenda.

-- The Senate will vote on revisions to the Standing Rules for Faculty Athletics Representatives and the Senate Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics. A vote will also be taken on the establishment of a new extra-senatorial Committee on Campus Athletics.

-- Vice President for Student Affairs Damon Sims will present baseline metrics from several initiatives to address student alcohol issues at Penn State.

-- Informational reports include the following: guidelines for curricular consultation, unit faculty workload policies, Intercollegiate Athletics’ faculty partner program, student transition issues from the Commonwealth campuses to University Park, and enrollment and instructor patterns in General Education courses.

-- Annual informational reports will be received on Senate scholarships awarded to undergraduates and a summary of 2011-12 student petitions by unit.

-- Members of the University community are invited to attend this meeting. Any member of the University community not a member of the Senate may request the privilege of the floor on any item of business already before the Senate. Such a request must be made to the chair, through the executive director, at least four calendar days before the meeting at which the individual wishes to speak.
