Police receive report of sexual assault in residence hall

In compliance with the “Timely Notice” provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Police and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 the University Police are giving notice of a sexual assault reported to have occurred in a residence hall on the west side of the University Park campus.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A reported rape/sexual assault, constituting a forcible sexual offense, was reported to have occurred in a University residence hall on the west side of campus between approximately 2 and 3:30 a.m. Dec. 1. The victim, a student, reported that they were sexually assaulted by a known suspect, also a student.

It can be assumed that conditions continue to exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the University community. It is the duty of the institution to warn of possible “dangerous conditions” on or near the campus and at affiliate organizations off campus; an “affirmative duty” exists to warn persons associated with this University of possible peril.

Police advise that members of the University community:
-- Do not walk alone; call 814-865-WALK for a free security escort
-- Report suspicious behavior to University Police immediately
-- If you feel you are in an unsafe environment, get to a safe place immediately and call for help
