Penn State Schuylkill held an informative speech contest Nov. 29, an event described by organizer Valerie Schrader, assistant professor of communications, as "something that's everywhere, and that is the reason why it's so important for Penn State Schuylkill students to learn it."

Kevin G. Mathieu won first place for his speech "Amour."  Haley Rich was awarded second place for her speech "The Pottsville Maroons." Lastly, Shiva Darian, earned third place for her speech "The Underground Industry: What You Don't Know."

The three community judges were: Kim Dove of VIST Bank, Jim Miller of MBC Development and Henry Nyce, publisher of The Pottsville Republican and Herald.
