LionCare clinic looks to boost efforts through alternative gift-giving

LionCare, the Penn State College of Medicine student-run free clinic at the Bethesda Mission in Harrisburg, is holding its annual Alternative Gift-Giving Campaign. LionCare provides free health services to the uninsured and underinsured population of the greater Harrisburg region. The campaign encourages donations -- in honor of another -- toward the purchase of supplies and/or equipment as an alternative to traditional gift-giving this holiday season.

“We treat 1,300 patients per year through weekly general and women’s health clinics, and monthly orthopaedic, psychiatric and neurologic specialty clinics,” said Bakhtiar Syed, second-year medical student and LionCare student chair. “All services, including dispensed medications, imaging and lab tests, are provided free of charge.”
