Shenango offers one-day terrarium workshop

Penn State Shenango’s one-day terrarium workshop will show how to create a small ecosystem with little work or upkeep from 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 26, in Great Hall of Sharon Hall on Vine Avenue in downtown Sharon, Pa.

A green thumb isn't required to maintain and enjoy a bit of the outdoors with a terrarium. The plants will sustain themselves with minimal care and may be placed in any indirectly lit space at home or in an office for a calming indoor natural world.

Terrariums come in all shapes and sizes depending on the glassware. There are a multitude of ideas and possibilities for terrarium themes, such as desert terrariums planted with succulents in sandy soil, or forest style terrariums planted with ferns and mosses with branches scattered about.

The two-hour workshop is $30, which includes all terrarium materials.

All proceeds from this workshop will benefit the Penn State Shenango Earth Fest, to be held April 13. To register, go to www.shenango.psu.edu under Announcements and click Terrarium Registration Form. Class size is limited to 15 people.
