Photos: Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. through community service

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- More than 270 Penn State students gathered at the HUB-Robeson Center on the University Park campus on the morning of Jan. 21 to take part in the 2013 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, a community outreach event organized by Penn State's MLK commemoration committee.

After a light breakfast, provided by the MLK commemoration committee, the volunteers received their assignments and made their way out through blustery winds and snow flurries to buses lined up outside the HUB to travel to their community outreach project locations. From cleaning to sorting, light maintenance to heavy lifting, student volunteers participated in a variety of projects at several locations throughout the campus and community including the St. Vincent dePaul thrift shop, the Centre County library, Strawberry Fields, Schlow Centre Region Library and Foxdale Retirement Village.
