UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — From around 10:30 a.m. until about 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4, all Penn State campus locations experienced intermittent telephone outages affecting inbound and outbound calls. The situation has been resolved, and voice services are now operational.

According to staff members in Telecommunications and Networking Services, the outages were a result of technical issues with the University’s telephone service provider, Level 3 Communications. The outages were reported to affect the entire East Coast.

As a result of the outages, students, faculty and staff members might have experienced difficulties or been unable to log in to WebAccess if using a desk phone to authenticate with two-factor authentication (2FA).

Technical staff will continue to work with Level 3 to monitor the situation, and any additional updates will be posted on the ITS Alerts site at http://alerts.its.psu.edu/alert-4271.

For questions or to report any issues, contact the Network Operations Center at noc@psu.edu or 814-865-4662.
