A plaque at the edge of the Wheatfield marks the location of the 148th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on day two of the Battle of Gettysburg. Company C of the 148th, consisting of soldiers from Penn State and Centre County, held the Union army's vulnerable left flank through an afternoon of horrific fighting.
