In 1978, after completing a correspondence course on ice cream-making from Penn State, Greenfield and friend Ben Cohen opened Ben and Jerry's Homemade ice cream scoop shop in an old gas station in downtown Burlington, Vt. Two years later, the pair rented space in an old spool and bobbin mill and began packing their ice cream in pints. The company has since opened almost 200 franchised shops, exists in 31 countries, and offers 64 flavors of ice cream.Image: Penn StateBen & Jerry Visit 2
