About 800 Penn State students turned out Saturday evening to hear speaker Jon Gosselin, co-star of the TLC reality TV show "Jon & Kate Plus." The lecture was sponsored by the Asian Pacific American Caucus, a student group that promotes diversity.

Originally employed as an information technology specialist, Jon says he is now a "stay-at-home" dad with the 4-year-old sextuplets and the 8-year- old twins. His lecture was funded by Penn State's University Park Allocation Committee (UPAC).

"We take life day by day," says Gosselin, co-star of the reality TV show "Jon & Kate Plus 8. He adds that being a great father and spending quality time with the children are his top priorities today.

His wife, Kate, travels on speaking engagements and is finishing two more books. The couple do "50-50 parenting," with Kate focusing on family finances and the show production and Jon on the daily family activities. However, he does manage to include exercise in his daily routine.

Gosselin discusses growing up in the Reading, Pa., area, and his biracial background with his mother's Korean heritage and his father's French, Irish and Welsh background. He is glad that his family is providing positive portrayals of Asian Americans on TV.

The show, "Jon & Kate Plus 8," is in its fourth season currently, but Gosselin says there will be a fifth season with "more crazy stuff." Two puppies have just joined the family in their new home.

The sextuplets were born at Penn State Hershey Medical Center's Neonatal Intensive Unit, the focus of an episode this season. The family returned there to visit the doctors, nurses and hospital staff who helped in their care.

Several students were able to ask questions directly of Gosselin about the children, his wife and the filming of the shows. He says each child has a different personality and the couple try to spend quality time with each child and with each other.

The evening ended with a trivia quiz with Gosselin handing out prizes such as photos, books and T-shirts to students with the winning answers.
