Members of the University Park community gathered for dinner with CNN's Peter Bergen at the Hintz Family Alumni Center prior to his speech Feb. 11 at Schwab Auditorium.

Peter Bergen, who is also author of “The Osama bin Laden I Know: An Oral History of al Qaeda’s Leader,” addressed a small dinner group first at the Hintz Family Alumni Center, and later delivered the Schreyer Honors College’s Signature Lecture at Schwab Auditorium.

During the pre-lecture dinner, guests had the opportunity to ask Bergen questions.

“I’m quite optimistic. In the long term, I’m confident [al Quaeda will] go out of business. ... If they’re very lucky, they may succeed in shutting down a major American city for quite some time but clearly they won’t end the American way of life,” said Bergen during the Schreyer Honors College Signature Lecture.
