With the sky tinged pink just after sunriise, Brian Michaels of New Vibrations Audio and Video steadies one of the pairs of clock faces for the Old Main bell tower as they're lowered to the ground in preparation for installation in the tower. Michaels and his crew were on-site before dawn Saturday, Jan. 28, doing prep-work so they could get started on the installation as soon as they had daylight.

Kevin Stitzer positions the strap that will be used to lift the clock face up to the east-facing spot in the Old Main bell tower. Although the clocks all are virtually the same size, they have been custom-sized to fit each opening in the bell tower.

A crane lifts the first of four renovated clock faces in preparation for installation into the Old Main bell tower. Unfortunately, the wind kicked up and the guide rope seen coming from the bottom of the clock face was not sufficient to keep it from spinning, so it was lowered to the ground so additional guide ropes could be attached.

With four guide ropes attached to it, the east-side clock face is raised into position. While it didn't seem that windy on the ground on Saturday, Jan. 28, winds higher up were strong, requiring extra guidance to bring the clock face safely to the Old Main bell tower.

Inside the Old Main bell tower, Mitch Ambill of New Vibrations Audio and Video secures one of the new clock faces into place. Once secured, all four clock faces will get their hands and be connected to a new automated system controlled remotely by the Office of Physical Plant to ensure all four faces display the correct time.
