Faculty Honored 1
The Old Main lobby was full on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 16, as Penn State recognized the three newest Evan Pugh professors and Distinguished Alumnus Jigmi Y. Thinley, prime minister of Bhutan. Evan Pugh professorships are the highest honor bestowed on faculty at Penn State. The honor is named for the University's first president, whose bust is seen to the left of the staircase.

Previous Evan Pugh professors stand to be recognized at the start of a ceremony to recognize Penn State's three newest Evan Pugh professors: Judith Bond, Donald Hambrick and Thomas Mallouk. The ceremony, held Thursday afternoon, Sept. 16, in the Old Main lobby, also honored Distinguished Alumnus Jigmi Y. Thinley, prime minister of Bhutan.

Steve A. Garban, chairman of the Penn State Board of Trustees, second from left, congratulates Jigmi Y. Thinley, prime minister of the Royal Government of Bhutan, on being named a Penn State Distinguished Alumnus. Thinley, who earned his graduate degree from Penn State in 1976, is the first Penn State alumnus to be the leader of a nation. The Distinguished Alumnus award is the University's highest award for an individual, and is a permanent, lifelong designation.
