'Tales of the Gubi'

Hosted by The Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society

Conducted by:

Nicole Andel, assistant professor of English

Harold Aurand,  assistant professor of history

Andel and Aurand will enact the antics of the unruly shepherd, Guba, and connect him to Krampus and St. Nicholas in a Western Slovakian house performance and medieval religious drama.

In a Carpatho-Rusyn Christmas Eve tradition, the local carolers go door to door dressed as angels and shepherds carrying a miniature church. Once inside the home, they then present a short “Bethlehem play.” Come to this free performance, enjoyable for young and old alike, and learn more about this Rusyn tradition.

The event will be held at Penn State Schuylkill. For more information, email shangp@rcn.com or call 610-759-2628.
