Penn State Lehigh Valley will offer the S.A.F.E. (Self-Defense Awareness and Familiarization Exchange) Training Program to students, faculty and staff from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 2, in room 135 and 1 to 2 p.m. on Oct. 3, on the quad at the campus in Center Valley. This free program is sponsored by Student Affairs and the Commission for Women and will be presented by the campus' Safety and Security team. The sign-up sheet for the training is located outside the Student Affairs office (room 214).

Roberto Castillo, associate professor of Spanish and Comparative Literature at Haverford College, Haverford, Pa., will be the featured speaker for Hispanic Heritage Month at 1 p.m. on Sept. 17, in room 302 at the campus in Center Valley. Castillo, a Chilean writer and scholar, will discuss relations between Latin America and the United States. This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Diversity Committee, Teaching International Program, and Alianza Latina.

Penn State's 2012-13 Laureate Christopher Staley, distinguished professor of ceramic arts at Penn State University, will present a lecture titled, "Art and Life: Where They Intersect," at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, in room 302 at Penn State Lehigh Valley in Center Valley. Staley's lecture will focus on how wisdom is revealed at the intersection of art and life.

Penn State Lehigh Valley's Office of Student Affairs will hold its annual Activities Carnival at 1 p.m. on Sept. 1 on the quad of the campus in Center Valley.

The Gallery at Penn State Lehigh Valley would like to announce the opening of their newest exhibit, "Altering Reality: Latin American Leading Artists." The exhibition will run from Aug. 27-Oct. 12, and will feature the works of seven Latin American artists from countries such as Cuba, Dominican Republic, Peru, and Venezuela. Artists include Pedro Fuertes, Dora Lopez, Rigo Peralta, Orlando Rafael Quevedo, Carlos Solis, Juan Ramiro Torres, and Ricardo Viera.

Alexander Atiyeh, a Penn State graduate who attended the Lehigh Valley campus for two years, has published his first book, The Syrias Life, which intends to prove that a struggle is necessary in order to prosper in life.

From 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Aug. 23, Penn State Lehigh Valley will welcome more than 300 new students at orientation day at the campus in Center Valley, Pa.

Penn State Lehigh Valley is pleased to announce that the campus will now offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Rehabilitation and Human Services beginning in fall 2012. The Rehabilitation and Health Services degree will help prepare students for entry-level positions in a variety of human service settings, particularly those that provide services to persons with physical, emotional, or mental disabilities.
