As the campus' centennial draws to a close, a limited number of copies of the commemorative "Roaring Recipes" cookbook are still available for purchase. The cookbook features recipes from Penn State Lehigh Valley students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the campus, and is available for purchase at the campus bookstore and online at www.lvwccookbook.webs.com. Each cookbook is $20 with proceeds benefiting student groups, adult learners, and the campus.

After nearly 40 years of service to Penn State Lehigh Valley's Office of Continuing Education, Sandra M. "Sandy" Litzenberger retired in October 2012. In September 1973, Litzenberger began her Penn State career working part time in the then Penn State Allentown Ridge Avenue facility in Continuing Education (CE) processing bulk mailings and assisting in the registration office. She became a full-time secretary in 1974 in the CE office and was involved in all aspects of continuing education including registration, filing, typing and working with students and faculty, assisting in setting up undergraduate and graduate evening and summer program credit courses, noncredit activities, and management development programs.

Charles Swanson, professor of economics and finance at Temple University, will be the featured speaker for the final fall Faculty Lecture Series at 1 p.m. Nov. 16, in room 302 at Penn State Lehigh Valley campus in Center Valley. Swanson will discuss "Oil Prices and the Macroeconomy since 1960." This event is free and open to the public.

Prospective students interested in applying to Penn State Lehigh Valley are invited to attend an information session at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at the campus, 2809 Saucon Valley Road. Lehigh Valley campus admissions representatives will be on hand to answer any application-related questions and guide students through the online application process.

Barbara Cantalupo, associate professor of English at Penn State Lehigh Valley, will be the featured speaker for the next Senior Adults Gaining Enrichment lecture. Cantalupo will present "The Poe You May Not Know" at 11 a.m. Nov. 2 in Room 135 at the campus in Center Valley. SAGE is an outreach program of Penn State Lehigh Valley for adults 55 or older. Each SAGE session begins with coffee at 10:30 a.m., the speaker at 11 a.m. and lunch at noon.

The Penn State Lehigh Valley Student Government Association, in collaboration with the Political Society, invites the campus and community to a Meet Your Legislators forum at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, in the auditorium (Room 135) of the campus in Center Valley. John Gastil, head of communication arts and sciences at Penn State University, will be the featured speaker for the next Faculty Lecture Series at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 30, in room 135 at the campus in Center Valley. Gastil will discuss "The Oregon Citizens' Initiative Review: A new role for citizen legislators in initiative elections." This event is free and open to the public.

To raise money for THON 2013, Penn State Lehigh Valley students will have their first canning weekend on Sept. 28 to 30. From 6 a.m. to dusk, more than 15 students will be outside of multiple Dunkin' Donuts locations along Hamilton Boulevard in Allentown, as well as the Walmart stores in both Trexlertown and Whitehall.
